PAST YEAR’S WORK

The Mayoress (Mrs J. I). C. Crewe) presided over a well-attended meeting of the Lady Liverpool Committee held at the Borough Council Chambers vest* • rda v a ffern o< >n.

The annual report dealt with the many activities of the committee during the past year. Allusion was made to the collecting of funds anti garments for the New Zealand soldiers, the Belgians, the Trenfchatn Base Hospital. subscriptions for the New Zealand hosptal ships. St. John’s Ambn. lance. Military Hospital, the Soldiers’ Club, literature, fruit and eggs for soldiers in camp, and Christmas gifts, sandbags and leather waistcoats for those at the front. The patriotic shops had l>een very successful. The Committee desired to thank Mrs P. .Thomson for arranging for regular consignments of eggs to Wellington.

The balanee-sh(*et showed the total receipts as being £406, and at 31st December last there was a credit balance of £SO. Tlie liabilities at that date were set down at £42 3s. The report and balance-sheet were adopted.

It was decidisl to ask the Mayoress of Wellington (Mrs Luke) to represent Pahiatua at Conferences in Christchurch and Wellington. ft, was agreed to continue the sewing bees every Tuesday fortnight, and «>n Wednesday week to make and mend sandbags. A vote of thanks was pnss4*d to the* Mayoress
