NEW FREEZING WORKS.

OPENED NEAR GISBORNE

Electric Tefegraph—Press Association.

Gisborne, This Day. The Poverty Bay Farmers’ freezing works were opened at Kaiteratahi, a thousand townspeople journeying to the function. The foundation stone was laid on August 26th, and it is .claimed that the erection of the works within six months is a Dominion record. Mr I.ysnar (chairman of directors) mentioned that the achievement was to the credit of hhe Imperial authorities at Home. The company informed the authorities at an early date of the establishment of xhe works and its importance in relation to maintaining food supplies, so that the authorities readily consented to place the required material and plant in the same category as war material. In this way the Company obtained the despatch of its orders, whilst plant for other works started twelve months before had reached the docks at Home and been commandeered. The works have a present capacity for dealing with 1500 sheep daily, but the ultimate full capacity will be for 4000 sheep.
