COW-TESTING AT WOODVILLE.

A meeting of the Woodville A. and P. Association was held last week, when a letter was Tead from Mr D. Cuddie, Director of Dairy Produce Division, stating it would not be possible to send a testing officer to Woodville weekly as requested, but one would visit once a month. The Department were willing, however, to assist the Association by testing the samples in Wellingon on the same condition as last year. The members considered that local testing would suit best, and Messrs J. Franklin and A. Stevenson were appointed to do the work. The following wei-e appointed stewards to supervise the milking competition :—Messrs Morgan, Gilbert, Herlihy, F. S. Veale, Read and Toogood. It was decided tliat the CowTesting Association bo again asked for the use of their bottles and scales. The balance-sheet of the Woodville Jockey Club for the past year shows the total receipts at £7969, and at the end of July there was a credit balance of £1241 17s. At a meeting of the Woodville A. and P. Association the following were appointed to canvas for the Gift Auction:—W. H. Gaisford, C. Taylor, G. Peebles, Gilbert, Morgan, Harding, Logan, Richards, J. Murray, Holdaway, Read and Wright. The President’s action in voting £2O out of the Association’s funds to the Patriotic Fund was endorsed. It was mentioned that a Wellington paper intended publishing a special Woodville number early in November, and the members agreed to spend one guinea in advertising in same. An offer of free space was granted at the Show to the owner of any merry-go-round or similar affair. The secretary reporter! that the credit balance at the Rank was close on £7O. The Patea County Council has, apparently, been going the pace in the matter o fexpenditure, and the bank has drawn its attention to the matter. The financial position was disclosed recently, and it was resolved that the members sign a “joint and several” to the extent of £4OOO, the period to be until the end of March. By that time, it was stated, the rates would be. collected. Several councillors emphasised the fact that the roads were no better for all the expenditure, but other- expressed a different opinion, and the chairman said that a gentleman who had recently been a guest of his said the roads in the Patea County were among the best in the country.
