Hawker was attempting a i()00 miles non-stop flight when engine troubles caused bis aeroplane to sideslip. His machine was too low to recover its equilibrium. In the fall the engine was torn from its wastenings, and crashed through the unoccupied passenger seat, missing Hawker by a couple of feet. Hawker’s back was severely injured, but bis condition is n 1 dangerous.
