FIRE ON A MAIL STEAMER.

The outbreak of fire on the Yille de la Ciotat occurred in a small sail locker in the vicinity of the main forehold, where 200 tons of copra was stored. Great difficulty was experienced in reaching the fire owing to its position and dense volumes of pungent smoke. The work of flooding the fort-hold was proceeding at an early hour this morning. Though it is still burning it is considered that there is little chance of the fire spreading further. The extent or the damage, or whether the fire lias gained a hold amongst the copra, is not yet ascertainable.
