FIRES
Electric Telegraph—Press Association. Dunedin, July 29. An old wood and iron building in Glen Road, Caversham, used as a fellmongery and mat factory, was burned down yesterday. It is assumed that the fire was caused by means of sparks from a boiler, which were communicated to scraps of w’ool lying about. The insurances on the building total £350, on the stock and plant £3OO, and on the machinery and contents £lso—all in the Alliance Assurance office. Timaru, July 29. Between seven and eight o’clock last night a house at St. Andrews, occupied by Constable Fitzgerald, was completely destroyed by fire. No one was at home at the time. The constable left bis borne at seven o’clock, when there was no sign of fire, but at eight o’clock the house was destroyed. Incendiarism is suspected. The house was insured in the Royal Office for £275, and the furniture with the New’ Zealand office for £IOO. The constable estimated his loss at £l5O.
