VOLCANIC DISTURBANCE IN THE ISLANDS. Sydney, July 23. The Nuvua, from the Islands, reports that a volcanic disturbance has occurred south-west of an island in the sea some miles from the shore. The Premier of Tonga, who visited the spot, states that there appears to be vents not. far from each other. There was a rushing, booming sound, and a column of smoke and steam, mixed with black pumice, was thrown into the air with a tremendous noise. The column was close on a hundred feet high. Vents were playing alternately. and should the outbreak continue the formation o fa new island is predicted. A MALARIA STRICKEN VESSEL. Sydney, July 22. The barque Larton has arrived at Newcastle Horn Delagoa Bay. Captain Boys and seven of the crew were stricken with malaria after leaving Delagoa Bay. The captain died, but the others have almost recovered.
