AUSTRALIAN POLITICS. PER UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION. Melbourne, May 31. Mr Bent, Victorian Premier, informed Mr Deakin, Federal Premier, that be had no intention to charge rent for Parliament House, but asks for £3OOO for year for the use of Government House. A Bill for the suppression of gambling will be introduced in the State Assembly next session. It provides that a judge, if not satisfied to the contrary, may issue a certificate practically putting a place where gambling has been carried on in legal quarantine. Hobart, May 31. In the Assembly the motion to adjourn to June 20th was carried by IS to 12. MR SEDDOX’S INTERVIEW. Wakapuaka, May 31. Apparently Mr Seddon’s interview with the Consul of the Netherlands referred to Java and not to Japan, as cabled.
