Trade Monopolies.

Commenting on the action of the Flourmillers’ Association the Lytteiton Times says:—“ The problem to be faced in dealing with trade monopolies is no simple one. In this case, an extensive rise in the price ot flour could be met by the removal of the duty on the imported article, but the relief thus afforded to the consumer would not bo very great. We hope tho Government will keep a watchful eye on the operations of the Trust, and that it will be able to devise some means of protecting the interests of the public. A working man with a large family must already have suffered severely through the action of the millers, and the price of bread and flour is a matter of the very first importance to tho poorer classes of the community. Winter will bo coming on us in a few weeks and coal is still dear, so that the outlook for the labouring classes is far from bright.’’
