In the Arbitration Court a question was raised as to whether an average rale of wages upon which compensation in a case of action iB based should be calculated on the actual earning of workmon during the preceding twelve months or on time by workman actually on work? during that period. As a question of the most important one affecting not only in this district but to the whole of New Zealand, Judge Cooper said be would hunt up tbe English authorities before delivering judgment.

Mr J. C. Et’.rick, a goldfield pioneer, died, as the result of injuries received, through being thrown from a cart.
