CO-OPERATIVE BOSSES. TO THE EDITOR. Sir, -In last Friday’s issue there appeared under the above heading a letter signed by H. Knight. His attack on Mr Jack is most unwarranted, and, to say the least, rather cowardly, seeing that that gentleman is debarred from replying. Your correspondent says that at the seDd-off to Mr Hay, Mr Jack said that “ when the time came for him to leave it would not be his fault if he did not carry away the same good feeling as was extended to MiHay." Don’t think Mr Knight was there (only subscribers to the Hay testimonial being invited) so what he states is only hearsay or imagination. I understood Mr Jack to say that “if he gave one-tenth of the satisfaction Mr Hay had he would be quite satisfied.” Other men bear me out in this. Incorrect quotations are very misleading, Mr Knight. From what I have had to do with Mr Jack I have always found him an excellent boss and one who thoroughly understands what he is talking about (extremely sorry, MiEditor, not to be able to say the same about your correspondent). Perhaps the undervalue of Mr Knight’s labor lies in tho fact that where an ordinary workman could make 8s a day ho cannot make so much. It is a great pity the engineer miscalculated Mr Knight’s ability in this respect. Of courso were he to get all the soft jobs and top prices the bosses would be the best in the world—nothing of the skinflint about them. Your correspondent soems to think that age and brains go hand in hand, but from what I have seen of some people the older thoy get the more childish they become. If your correspondent doesn't believe me, well, he should go to—Paraguay. I am, eto., D. A. Light.
