A parliamentary blue book dealing with the Behring Sea Fisheries dispute has been issued by the Marquis of Salisbury in the course of a dignified reply to demands. He consents to holding a conference of experts for the purpose of arranging the points of issue, but indicates this does not necessarily involve the assent of Great Britain to the strasge misconceptions of Mr Sherman. The Marquis of Salisbury asserts that Great Britain had courteously complied with every requirement of the Paris Award, but had been continuously hampered by attempts on the part of America to embarrass British subjects. A Barque Wrecked. London, September 19. The barque Helenlea, from Glasgow to Freemantle, with a general cargo, was totally wrecked on August 24ih on Inaccessible Island, the most westerly of the Tristan D’Achuna group. The cargo was lost, but the erew, who took to tho boats, reached Capetown safely. Swimming. London, September 19. The first of three swimming contest between Tyers and Percy Cavill was held at Blackpool and witnessed by thousands of spectators. The sea was rough with fresh wind, the betting being two to one on Tyers. The Englishman got away the smarter of the two, and led for the first quarter of a mile. Cavill thon went to the front and led for the remainder of the distance, winning by 40 yards. The course, which was actually 1815 yards, was covered in 24min 26secs. Cavill kept a beautiful course out to sea, while Tyers had the course towards shore, ami was troubled by the surf and sun in his eyes. Tyers entered a protest that Cavill went outside the finishing flags, but the judge disallowed the protest and awarded tho race to Cavill. Tyers has refused to swim the other long distance sea races arranged with Cavill, but offers to swim him a series of matches from 100yds to a mile in still wafer. Treaty of Peace Signed. Constantinople, September 19. Tho treaty of peace between Turkey and Greece was signed yesterday. Turkey withdraws to the banks of tho river Pencils immediately on the Greek Chamber of Deputies assigning revenues for the payment of the war indemnity, and undertakes to completely evacuate Thessaly as soon as tho indemnity is paid.
