DISTRICT NEWS.
——• ' ! From our own Correspondents. Makairo. i It is to be hoped that whichever Company is going to build a creamery here, a start will soon be made. 1 say this, as many of our settlers are undecided re farming arrangements for next season until they know tin* the decision of these companies. It : is beyond doubt that if the creamery ; is opened here, over 100 cows will be obtained the first season. Therefore, 1 sav, why this delay? Is is ; because one company is watching ; the other, or what ? 1 am assured that many of our settlers would go | into dairying if tho creamery is | erected here, who otherwise will not, as they say. and quite truly, that if they had to cart their milk five or six miles, the business would not pay. 1 have beard it rumoured that the directors of the Farmers' Association in jour town have prevented the firm of auctioneers w ho sell for them from purchasing or sending agents to purchase stock that they may have received orders for from clients at a distance. 1 hold this to be exceed ingly wrong, and very detrimental to the interests of all concerned. | Tho opposition has done a good deal of good, but if this rumour is true, they will find they have made a great mistake.
