As the evening selected is that prior to the race meeting here, no doubt the engine fund will bo greatly augmented by the performance. The concert arranged by tho members of the Anglican Church choir is to be held this evening. An energetic committee of ladies and gentlemen have had the matter in hand for some time. Several new performers will make theig bow to a Pahiatua audience for the first time, and altogether a most successful performance is anticipated.

A singular occurrence took place in Wellington recently. A horse attached to a spring-cart was seized with spasms. The driver procured a small bottlo of gin, and was pouring some of the liquid down the animal’s throat when the brute bit the bottle in two and swallowed one of the pieces, sustaining such injuries internally that it had to be destroyed.
