Particulars of the tragedy at Narrabri show that Maher who was living apart from his wife visited Green’s house and told him he was going to shoot him. Green picked up a rifle and aimed it at Maher but it missed fire; tho lattor remarking “You’ve had your turn, now me ” shot him dead. The wife and son overpowered the murderer but Maher got free by strategy and shot his wife dead and then himself.
