The report of the two delegates who were sent to India by the Victorian Government to investigate the trade prospect is somewhat discouraging.. It would be useless, they report, to attempt to introduce frozen meat into India unless proper provisions were made for cool storage. The demand for the best quality of meat is small, the principal business being done with a medium article. With regard to supplying army delegates it was found that fresh meat can bo obtained at much less cost locally than the frozen article. Poisoning a Family. Brisbane, This day. A woman named Spence, resident at Maryborough, poisoned herself and five children with carbolic acid. All died with the exception of an infant. The Opposition Policy. Brisbane, This day. Mr Power, leader of the Opposition, has disclosed the policy of tho party. They are opposed to the reappointment of the railway commissioners, unjust taxation, and unjust retrenchment. They will encourage the export of frozen meat and dairy produce, and support the one man ono vote principle, and the referendum system. The party will favour fir taxation and generally adopt tho New Zealand political programme. They also intend to put a stop to the land grant swindles and private monopoly of railways.

Tho general elections take place the first week in August. Australian Sporting. At the A.J.C. winter meeting the principle events resulted as follows: Steeplechase—Ontario 1, Sneaker 2,Castlebar 3. Nine started, including New Zea landers Waterbury and Mutiny who fenced beautifully for the greater part of the journey, ami Mutiny had secured a head of over a hundred yards on entering last round, when he came down. Waterbury met the same fate.
