Court praying that the election of tht* licensing committee for Invercargill and also the local option poll be enquired into and declared void on the ground of irregularity in connection with the voting. Erson has written again to the Central Board of Health at Wellington. asking the authorities to take some steps with regard to the unsatisfactory condition of the Borough of Onehunga, instancing a number of cases of typhoid. Fire. Auckland, This Day. Loram s new hotel at Kuautuna was burned down on Friday. Patterson, a boarder, was slightly burned in escaping. Mr Hockland, housekeeper, was cut on the foot severely in getting through a window. J. A. Thompson’s store, adjacent, was also destroyed. Both buildings are insured in the Manchester office. At a public meeting held for the purpose of protesting against the decision of tho Returning Officer in declaring at the recent local option poll that informal votes do not count to make a poll valid, the following resolution was carried :—“ That in the opinion of this meeting the decision of the Returning Officer in declaring the local option poll void in face of the fact that 1331 electors voted calls for tho immediate action of the Cabinet to give their decision as to the legality of the Return ing Officer’s decision.
