Wellington, This day. Alfred King, well-known as a sporting writer, under the name of “ Vigilant," died suddenly just after midnight, of aneurism of the heart. He had been ailing for some time. He came to tb* colony in 1872, and joined the staff of the Auckland Star in 1878. He removed to Wellington, where for seven years he was sub editor of the Post. Since then he had been attached to the N.Z. Times. Capt Edwin reports there aro now strong evidences of hard gales from north in most parts of the country between noon of Thursday and midnight of Saturday.
