A medico, living on this coast, has been badly duped in connection with the purchase of a trotting horse. While in Christchurch recently he arranged for the purchase of a well-known performer, and shortly after arriving home he sent for his new purchase. The trotter arrived in due course, but his paces were so different to what they were when last shown to his master that suspicion was aroused, and enquiry elicited the fact that another horse had been “ palmed ” on to him, and the original was still endeavoring to earn Lis oats in trotting races in the South. Further developments are awaited.— Standard.

A gentleman who travelled b v train in the morning had breakfast but failed to pay for it. On his return he dined, this time introducing a friend. He hopes to see the trade grow so rapidly as to lead in a few years to a very much better service. Mr Bowell is by profession a journalist.
