The shipowners have submitted a proposal to the Engineers’ Conference at Melbourne that instead of the wages existing at present a new scale be introduced allowing £l6 18s or £2O per month to the chii f enghu era, utd £lßll or 618 to second-class engineers. It is believed the engineers are ready to accept a reduction to the amount p.wailing before tho maritime strike of 1890.
