EXPORT LAMB COMPETITION.

BEST SOUTH ISLAND DISPLAY. Mr H. Turner presided over a conference between representatives of the Otago A. and P- Society, Dunedin Stock and Station Agents, and the representative from the New Zealand Refrigerating Company, on Friday afternoon. The New Zealand Meat Board’s proposal offering a perpetual challenge shield for the best district display of lambs from the South Island, and also its offer of special prizes for the best individual lots of lambs shipped were fully discussed, and it was decided unanimously to use every effort to see that Otago was well represented in this competition. It was decided that the Otago A. and P. Society should be the controlling body to carry out the arrangements in connection with the competition.

After some discussion it was decided! that the closing date of entries would! be Saturday, January. 16, 1932, and the kiHing date Wednesday, January 27. ’ The proposal that prizes be offered for" the best lambs from any district was 'discussed, and it was decided to offer a first prize of £3, a second -of £2, and a third of £1 for the best lambs-consigned from the various districts—namely, (1) Waiheme and Waikouaiti. (2) Taieri and Bruce,, and (3) Tuapt-ka, Maniototo, and Lawrence districts. It was understood that the Chitba and Matau A. and P. Society was arranging for special prizes for the best display from South Otago, and the secretary was instructed to communicate with the-North Otago A. and E- Society asking _if it was also prepared to ‘ offer prizes to encourage competition., .The lambe entered for this competition will be judged locally, prior to-shipment-A. circular'letter -xvill be issued to all interested early-.'next -week .concise particulars of the various conditions imposed.
