A DESPERATE AFFAIR

WOMAN’S THROAT SLASHED ASSAILANT COMAIITS SUICIDE. THAMES, August 25. About 8.30 last evening Daniel Sylvester Aloloney, a carrier, of Hikutaia, visited the home of Aliss Ivy Charlotte Robinson, in Beach road, Thames. It is not yet known what occurred, but Aloloney slashed Aliss Robinson’s throat and then cut his own throat in the kitchen of the house. He was dead when found. Further details show that Aloloney, whose wife and two children live at Paeroa, had been very friendly with Aliss Robinson, but her mother desired the friendship to be broken. Aloloney went to the girl’s house last evening, according to a sister’s story, and attempted to renew relations. ’ The sister went out of the kitchen, where the two were talking. Later she heard her sister scream, and Ivy Robinson rushed out of the room and collapsed on the footpath, having been slashed on the throat by a razor. Airs Robinson, ill in bed, also heard the scream, got up and went to the kitchen, and in front of her eyes the man cut his throat, collapsing on the sofa and expiring in a few minutes. The police were called by a younger sister. Ivy’s injuries were attended to by a doctor, and she was able to return home. Aloloney was well known in the district, and was of very fine physique. He was separated from his wife, and was paying attention to Ivy, but her mother had ordered her to cease the friendship.
