A POSTMASTER’S LAPSE
BLOT ON UNBLEMISHED RECORD. AUCKLAND, August 27. Heavily in debt through sickness in his family, Hudson Gilfillan, aged 46, the postmaster at Epsom, stole £6O. To-day he pleaded guilty to theft as a Government servant, and was committed for sentence, bail being renewed. The chief postmaster said that previously the accused had been a man of the highest integrity, and had been 30 years in the service. His salary was £265 10s a year.
