“ Gandhi,” declared Sir John Monash, in an address at Melbourne, “is an ascetic. He is highly skilled and learned, but whether he is sincere or whether he is a humbug I cannot say. One is inclined to think that he is a humbug, because some eff his doctrines urge civil disobedience. . Gandhi’s demands show that Mr Lang is not altogether original. He Tequesta that no Government servant shall receive more than £5OO a year, so that apparently Mr Lang stole the idea from him bolus bolus.” —(Laughter.)
