BOXING CONTEST IN INVERCARGILL. INVERCARGILL, August 26. A professional boxing contest waa staged here to-night between Ray Nieol (Ohai), 12 stone, and Fred Parker (Timaru), 11 stone 91b. The bout was won by Nieol on points after an interesting contest, in which he was superior throughout. WRESTLING. ALLEY DEFEATS PENCHEFF. NEW PLYMOUTH, August 30. Tom Alley defeated George Pencheff at Stratford on Saturday night in a bout that had a strange finish. Alley had a one fall advantage when the eighth and last round started, but appeared certain to lose his advantage when groggy and shaken by repeated headlocks. He staggered rbund the ring, but Penehefi failed to finish him. The reason probably was that in the interval before the round Alley removed his shoes. Pencheff tried treading on his toes, Alley’s reply being a vigorous kick in the groin, from which Pencheff had probably not recovered. WOMEN’S MARATHON SWIM handsome" PRIZES. TORONTO. August 28. Margaret Ravoir, of Philadelphia, won the 10-mile Women’s Marathon Swim today for the second successive year. The winner will receive 5000 dollars of the 10,000 dollars prize-money. Her time was 4hr 56min 44 2-ssec. Ethel Hertle Gary, of New York, was second, and Ethel M'Garry, of New York, third. LONG-DISTANCE WALK SYDNEY, August 29. The 50 Kilometre Walking Championship of New South Wales was won by G. A. Smith (New South Wales), in shr 7min 2sec, with W. J. Clark (Randwick). shr 23mi.il 25see, second, and C. W.
