FIRES.

OUTBREAK IN MOTOR GARAGE. WAIROA, August 6. A fire gutted the whole of the front portion of the Wairoa Motor Garage Company’s premises at midnight. Fifteen cars were burnt, and the stock was damaged by smoke and water. The brigade effected a good save, the fire being extinguished within five minutes of the alarm. The building and contents were insured in the Norwich Union Office. ACCOMMODATION HOUSE DESTROYED. BLENHEIM, August 6. The Rai Valley accommodation house on the road to Nelson, owned by Mr M. Hart, and leased by Mr G. Mosely, a place of 16 rooms, was totally destroyed by fire this morning at 2.30. It was built six years ago. The 11 inmates had only time to escape in their night attire. Splendid work by residents saved the adjoining store and bakehouse, owned by Mr Hart. A very heavy frost during the night made it difficult at first to obtain water, which hampered the efforts of those endeavouring to quell the outbreak. The telephone wires were burnt through. The building was insured for £l2OO in the Yorkshire Office, and £5OO in the Norwich Union. The contents were covered by a policy of £450 in the Yorkshire Office, and £lOO in the Norwich Union.
