CONTROL OF RAILWAYS.
BOARD OF DIRECTORS FAVOURED.
AUCKLAND, October 9. “ I feel that -this is the one solution of the serious trouble that the railways are in,” said Mr Malcolm Stewart, chairman of the council of the Auckland Chamber of Commerce to-day, when it was decided to support the Palmerston North Chamber in urging the Government to give effect to the recommendation that the control of railways be transferred to an independent board of directors.
Mr A. G. Lunn declared that a board could be selected round the council table which would not make half the mess of the railways that had been made. Mr L. A. Eady: That is rather a doubtful compliment.
