A message from Syracuse states that the Democratic State Convention, with Mr Alfred E. Smith dictating the prohibition plank, to-day renominated Mr Franklin Roosevelt for Governor, and adopted a platform calling for the repeal of the Eighteenth Amendment and the control by individual States of the prohibition question. about a terrific drive on both the curh and the Stock Exchange, resulting tn serious price reductions in a large list of stocks, losses of one to eight points being registered. Gordon Stewart Northcott, who murdered a dozen boys, victims of his inhuman lust, himself died on the gallows in San Quentin Penitentiary, where his mother is serving a life sentence for participation in the strange crimes. Northcott died as he lived, a supreme faker, and he collapsed as he faced the gallows. Up to that moment he had pretended that he would escape the noose, but when he saw death only seconds away he fainted, and was carried to the gallowa.
