A new sport which has made its an. Peacanee in Southland is land yachting and, though a casual observer might not think so it requires as much skill, though admittedly less seamanship, as the manoeuvring of such boats as the Shamrock (reports the Southland Daily News) A land yacht capable of 35 miles per hour in a favourable wind was built over a year by Mr J. Dundas, of Invercargill. It has frequently been tried out on Oreti Beach, and on a recent week-end a partv of three aboard the craft made a fast trip to Riverton. Broadsiding is also possible with the yacht, but it is a dangerous sport unless those in charge understand its peculiarities. Built oh a li<dit motor car chassis, the yacht is equipped with light pneumatic-tyred wheels, and cai i ics a good spread of canvas, ringed as a regular yacht with the mainsail attached to a swinging boom.
