FRAGRANT AS A FLOWER.

What could be a more laudable ambition ! Frocks are more flowery this year, hats also, if the term may be applied to them. If we would be thorough over the whole business we must follow suit with our perfumes. But that is more easily said than done. Good perfume is apt to command good prices; a perfume which is cheap often smells so, and rather than resort to a second best many a woman decides to leave well alone. She decides wisely,

perhaps, though if she gives the matter consideration she will realise that there are other alternatives.

In dealing with fragrance in this instance we will take for granted the most important practical side, which consists in scrupulous daily cleansing of the whole body. That obviously is the first step towards being as fragrant as a flower; such items as scent and talcum powder are but delightful accessones.

After cleanliness, however, one feels thay they are worth encouraging’. It s nice to smell nice !

Now for your choice. If y ou can manage it, have your taleum powder, face powder, and scent all of one perfume. There is nothing worse than a hotch-potch of perfumes all vieing with each other. Still, if this cannot be managed, and it is more difficult than one might imagine, have your talc and face powder only faintly perfumed, and let your perfume proper provide the dominant note. Let your bath soap be perfumed to match your talc or face POHder; your face soap, if you use one, Hi<rhß tter i leryI ery faint] y perfumed. Hi^hlj-scented soaps are seldom good v ° r r - t l - he skln .’ and the super-fatted varieties considered best for the complexion seldom have a strong perfume. Now for your perfume proper. Personally, I feel that day perfumes and evening perfumes are quite different affairs Day perfumes should, I feel be fresh and fragrant, but perfume for exotic liWCe ° r thcatre lna y more

Mercifully, the fresher and perhaps u'X-n « ry P e r, fuDles ean be classed idei the accessible ” heading, as they can be obtained at reasonable prices. Eau-de-Cologne and lavender water are the wisest choices for the girl who wants something for daytime use. Heie, particularly the case of lavender PAf 1 ? We la ?i 6 a arn ’k'ar fragrance that never palls. It sometimes happens that we are given a bottle of one of the more exotic and expensive perfumes as a gift. With a very expensive scent we may feel it is rather a waste to use it at all times and tor all occasions, and unless there is to be another bottle forthcoming almost immediately, I think it is a good plan to keep the expensive perfume for special occasions. Use it, say, only for evening wear, and buy yourse'lf a bottle of lavender water or eau-de-Cologne, or anythmg else you like, for the daytime. A daytime perfume generally means an outdoor perfume, and one feels that this should be a fresher affair altogether than the indoor perfume. This latter may be more elusive and subtle. To be elusive or subtle in the daytime or in the open air does not always suit us 1 Lavender water and eau-de-Cologne need not be as ordinary as they sound. There are several very excellent brands of lavender water on the market, and each is quite different in its way. Eau-de-Cologne now offers greater possibilities stilL Russian eau-de-Cologne is paiticularly distinctive, and two or three French firms- specialise in Colognes delightfully and variously perfumed. Here again it is well to remember that a few of the rather exclusive SC ent manufacturers offer bottles of Cologne at quite reasonable prices whereas their other bottles of perfume may be prohibitive to the average purse. Finally, those who have to be out all day will find a small bottle of eau-de-Cologne, or lavender water, carried in their handbags, a godsend. There are. special sizes for handbags, and a few drops in the heat of the day, or after the heat of an argument even, make one feel fresher and happier at once. Tho*e who prefer to carry their own special must buy a special perfumekoWei, which in outward appearance, looks much like a large lipstick. These and most of the tiny bottles with screw tops can only be filled or refilled bv of a scent spray. Treat yourself to a reliable scent spray when you can afford one. It will prove the most delightful, economical, and satisfactory wav of usin" perfume.—Answers. " ‘ °
