DANCERS AND PIPERS’ CLUB.

MONTHLY SOCIAL.

The monthly social evening of the Dunedin Highland Dancers and Pipers’ Club which was held in the Union Football Dance Hall, North grounds, took the form of a social and dance. There was a large attendance of members and friends. The executive was played into the hall by Mr D. Bruce, an ex-champion piper and the father of the club.

The president (Mr Munro) on behalf of the club heartily welcomed those present, especially those who were there for the first time. He said that the membership of the club was increasing beyond expectations, and the executive had every reason to congratulate itself on its efforts. Ten new members had been added since the last monthly meeting. He referred to the object for which the club existed, but said he hoped that to whatever extent those objects were cherished by its members the club stood for higher ideals, one being the claim to its right and privilege to assist other men... He then referred to a case where death, a. few days ago, had claimed the mother of eight children the eldest of whom was 14 years and the youngest five weeks, and after mentioning other hardships surrounding the case said a list was available for those wishing to subscribe towards the support of the family.

The response to this appeal was very gratifying. The following vocal and instrumental items were contributed by members and friends:—“Just One of the Boys” and “ I Didn’t Ken What to Do,” by Air W. A. Steel; pipe duet, Alessrs R. Burne and E. AlacKenzie; Gaelic song, “ Ari Fal al al o” and “ Eriskay Love Lilt,” Mrs A. Maclvor; Highland reel—Alisses N. and P. Steel, A. MacCaskill, and N.
