SALE OF POWER SYSTEM.

HAWERA, February 26

Arbitration proceedings opened here today to determine the ‘value of the assets of the Hawera County Electric Company for the purpose of purchase by the South Taranaki Power Board. The assessors are Mr E. Hitchcock (manager of the Municipal Electricity Department at Christchurch) for the board, and Mr H. D. Viekery (accountant. Wellington) for the company. Mr J. S. Barton, S.M., is umpire. Mr F. C. Spratt (Wellington) and Mr A. K. North (Hawera) are counsel for the company, which is in the position of plaintiff, and Mr M. Myers, K.C., and Mr John Houston (Hawera) ; are counsel for the board. The witnesses include accountants and engineers from various parts of the Dominion. It is anticipated that the proceedings will last for several days.
