TAXATION REVISION.

NO IMMEDIATE ALTERATIONS.

WELLINGTON, February 27. A brief but important reference to the Government’s taxation policy was made hy the Prime Minister (Sir Joseph Ward) at the annual luncheon to-day of the New Zealand Manufacturers’ Federation.

“We will not at present,” said the Prime Minister, “tinker with any alteration of taxation. The time will come when we know the financial position of the country—and that will be after the end of the current financial year—for the whole question of taxation revision to be gone into. It is not an easy matter. It is a very difficult one. It is not a matter that can be discussed ahead b months, but when an agreement is arrived at as to how far we can go, the public of New Zealand will know it. When the Financial Statement is delivered in the House is the proper time. We do not want to create fear or fright until we have a fixed policy, but we have to know the financial results of the year first;.”
