PRISONER RECAPTURED.
TAKEN FROM BED OF EIDERDOWNS. . AUCKLAND, March 1. John William Osborne, aged 17, who escaped from the police station lock-up a fortnight ago, was arrested at 2 o’clock this morning asleep in a large cupboard at the residence of Mr George Blomfield, Epsom. Detectives had been informed that a suspicious character had been seen. A half-eaten apple and an open book and a bed made of eiderdown indicated that Osborne had made himself comfortable. He had gained an entry by climbing through the window. Osborne submitted to arrest without a struggle, and appeared in court latter on a charge of breaking and entering and the theft of jewellery and money to the value of £75. He was remanded to March 7. Further charges are said to be pending.
