THE POULTRY INDUSTRY.

TRYING TIME EXPERIENCED. WELLINGTON, February 26. From the tone of a deputation to the Minister of Agriculture (Mr G. W. Forbes) and the nature of his reply today it is apparent that the poultry industry is going through a very trying time. The deputation was from the Wellington producers, who, among other matters, brought up the question of the disadvantage under which North Island producers laboured in regard to the price of wheat as compared with southern poultry men. Mr Forbes said that southern poultry men complained that the industry was not profitable, and the position in the north appeared to be worse. He pointed out the difficulty that on the other hand the wheat producers were also seeking the protection of the Government. The Minister showed plainly his desire that the poultry industry should flourish both for the sake of the producer and the community. He promised to go fully into the matter with the department.
