A MISSING SOLICITOR.
LOCATED IN AUSTRALIA. CHRISTCHURCH, September 21. Australia is stated to be the new home of J. B. Batchelor, the young, Christchurch solicitor who disappeared from New Zealand recently, leaving behlns him a big trail of liabilities and a host of angry creditors (says the Sun). The police, it is said, are able to lay their hands on him at an, time, but are awaiting the decision of the creditors to apply for his extradition. There is some division of opinion among the creditors as to whether they will pay the cost of extradition or leave Batchelor in Australia. When Batchelor left Wellington it is believed that he got away to Australia as a member of the crew of one of the vessels running between Sydney and Wellington. In the meantime Batchelor has been adjudged a bankrupt and under the supervision of Mr C. S. Thomas, acting on behalf of the creditors, his financial condition and liabilities are being investigated. The task of straightening out the tangle of liabilities is a long one, but_ it is thought that in the end his indebtedness will be found to be rather less than was at first estimated. The next meeting of his creditors will not be held for some time. The question is: Will the creditors apply for Batchelor’s extradition should he-prove to be in Australia?
