Prior to the commencement of the charity Rugby match at the Childers road reserve, Gisborne, on- a recent Saturday afternoon (says the Poverty Bay Herald) the Mayor, Mr D. W. Coleman, attired for football, extended hearty thanks on behalf of both teams to Tom Heeney for consenting to referee the match, and to express fully the appreciation of the players. Tom was presented with a Maori greenstone tiki and a fountain pen with a greenstone handle, while Mrs Tom Heeney was the recipient of a gold spoon with a greenstone handle. The three presents were suitably inscribed.
