The Auckland pity Council decided last week to purchase for £lOO a collection of 1700 photographic negatives depicting the city and suburbs in earlier days, particularly during the last 3C years (says the Star). The collec tion was made by Mr H. Winkel mann. The pictures are considered tc be of topographical and historical value. The ravages of goats in the bush or Mount Egmont are causing grave concern (says the Taranaki Herald). Aa meeting of the North Committee of the Egmont National Park Board the other night the board’s ranger (Mr R. W. Larsen) mentioned that goats were now fairlj thick in the bush. The damage being done was considerable. In the Pouakai bush they had not spared trees 12ir in diameter.
