MISSING FROM SHIPBOARD.
PASSENGER’S STRANGE DISAPPEARANCE. WITANGAREI, August 24. During the voyage of the Claymore from Auckland to Whangarei last night a passenger named R. Clayton, about 60 years of age, mysteriously vanished. Shortly after midnight the steward observed Clayton apparently asleep in his bunk. At 2.15 a.m. the engineer noticed a man answering to Clayton’s description standing aft. At 6.30 a.m. the steward reported that Clayton’s bunk was empty and the passenger was nowhere to be found aboard. As a result of a close search of his clothes and other belongings papers disclosed that the missing man was a florist of Tauranga.
