SHIPWRECK RELIEF SOCIETY.

MEETING OF EXECUTIVE. A meeting of the executive of the Shipwreck Relief Society was held on Thursday afternoon, and was attended by Mr C. W. Chamberlain (in the chair), Sir George Fenwick, Messrs D. E. Theomm, G. L. Denniston. S. K. Sleigh. W. Clarke, F. Tyson. E. C. Hazlett, J. M. Macintosh. and Captain Fraser. The Secretary reported that there was at present £259 16s 8d in the current account at the Bank of New Zealand, and it was decided that £232 10s of this amount be invested in Post Office investment certificates. It was further reported that a contribution of £lll 10s 9d towards the society’s funds had been received from the Lnion Steam Ship Company. Draft copies of the annual report and balance sheet to be submitted at the society’s annual_ meeting were read and approved, subject to the balance sheet being signed by the auditor. It was decided that the annual meeting be held in the Town Hall on the afternoon of May 21. SOCIETY’S ANNUAL REPORT. The following report will be submitted by the executive of the society at the annual meeting:— During the year the sum of £63 10s wnn paid out by the society’ by' way of relief, made up as follows: —Keeper hulk Arawata, £25; apprentices, Mororo (two), £2O; A. Bray, in connection with wreck of fishing boat Nelson. £10; H. M. Scarborough, Tororo, £3 ss; C. Johnston, fisherman. £5 ss. The sum of £6O was contributed to the British Sailors’ Society. To the Lnion Steam Ship Company your committee is again deeply grateful for the handsome contribution of £473 3s Id to the society’s funds, being amounts received from entertainments held on board the company’s steamers. ■ Your committee also desires to express its thanks to Messrs Huddart, Parker, Ltd., for the amount of £l7. r pr<» : v-d ->n board the s.s. Ulimaroa, and your committee also asknowledges with thanks the sum of £1 Ils 6d, received on board the London missionary schooner Tiaro Taporo. To the captains, officers, pursers, and crews of the vessels concerned your committee again desires to express its appreciation of their continued interest in the welfare of the society. 1 Jour executive also desires to aeknowedge the following donations:— Auck- ” land, Wellington, and Otago Harbour Boards, £los 10s each; Oamaru Harbour Board, £3 3s; Gisborne. Nelson, Riverton and Wanganui Harbour Boards and Borough of Invercargill, £2 2s each; Wairoa and Thames Harbour Boards. £1 Is each; Mr W. Downie Stewart, £1 Is. To Captain Atwood, our Auckland representative, your committee is again indebted for the able manner in which he has assisted in administering relief in the Auckland district and for the capable manner in which he at all times looks after the somety’s affairs in the north. Io Mr W. A. Kennedy, the society’s representative in the Wellington district, our best thanks are also due for similar services rendered. It is with deep regret that your committee has to refer to the dentil ,of Mr J. A. Park, one of the founders of the society, who at all times took a very keen interest in the society’s affairs/ Your executive desires to.express its heartfelt sympathies with his widow and fami’v The accumulated funds have been satisfactorily invested, and the interest therefrom makes a substantial addition to the society’s income.
