MEETING OF COMMITTEE. The monthly meeting of the General Committee of the Patients and Prisoners' Aid Society was held on Wednesday in the Returned Soldiers’ Association’s club rooms. Mr E. A. Rosevear was in thu chair, and there were also present:— Sir George Fenwick, Messrs D. Todd, D. E. Theomin, J. Taylor, W. Gow, H. H. Driver, W. L. Logie, J. Loudon, C. B. Smith, E R. Cumming) reported that during his recent holiday he had visited many hospitals and prisons in the north with a view to finding out what was being done in the way of community service. He saw nothing superior to the work which was being done in Dunedin, and in many ways the efforts here were better. The general work of the society, he added, had not been so heavy as usual durino- the month, but a large -number of people had called seeking help and employment. Thirty-eight applicants had been helped at an expenditure of £2l 8s 2d. Some of the cases were very deserving.—The reoort was adopted. An entirely satisfactory report on the affairs of the James Powell Convalescent Home was also received. The Hospital Committee’s report stated that the secretary had requested the chairman of the Hospital Board (Mr W. E. S. r Knight) to accompany him to various func- > tions at the mental hospital, and also in connection with the society’s work at the Dunedin Hospital. Mr Knight had been greatly impressed with the work that was being done.—The report was approved.
