THE DAVIS CUP. BRITAIN BEATS ARGENTINA. LONDON, May 4. Crolc-Rees and Eames (Britain) beat Boyd and Robson (Argentina), G—4, 6—l, 9—ll, I—6, 7—5. . May 5. By winning three out of the first four matches at Torquay Britain beat Argentina in the first round of the Davis’ Cup matches, and will now meet the winners of the contest between Jugo-Slavia aud Finland. Britain finally beat Argentina by four matches to one. RUMANIA DEFEATS BELGIUM. BUCHAREST, May 4. In the Davis Cup tie to decide which meets the winner of the Australia v. Italy match Lnppu (Rumania) beat Ewbank (Belgium), 6—3, 7 —9, 7 —5, 7—9, 6—2. Mishu (Rumania) was leading Iweins. 6—3, 3 —6, B—6, when a strong wind stopped play. May 5. Rumania eliminated Belgium. Mishu beat Iweins, 6—3, B—6. 3—6, 6—3. Mishu and Boomer beat Ewbank and Iweins after losing the first set. GERMANY v. GREECE. BERLIN, May 4. Buss (Germany) beat Zerlendi (Greece), 7—5, 6-—4, 4—6, 6 —2. Froitzheim (Germany) beat Balli, 3—6, 6—4, 6—3. Darkness stopped play. DENMARK v. POLAND. WARSAW. May 5. In a Davis Cup contest E. Ulrich (Denmark) beat Georges Stolarow (Poland), 3 —6, 6 —4. 6—o, 6—4. Axel Petersen (Denmark) beat Warminski, 6—2, 3—6, 6—2. FINLAND v. JUGOSLAVIA. WARSAW, May 5. At Zagreb Grahn (Finland) beat Popovitch (Jugo-Slavia), 6—2, 6—2, 6 —3. Schaffer (Finland) beat Grotenfelt, 6—3, 2—6, 9 —7, 7 —5. HUNGARY v. NORWAY. BUDAPEST, May 5. In the final of the men’s singles Lace ste, the holder, beat Spence, 6—2, 6—2, In the final of the mixed doubles Cochet and Miss Eileen Bennett beat H. Lester and Miss Joan Ridley, 9—7, 6—2.
