ASTRONOMICAL NOTES FOR MAY.
THE SUN. The sun’s path during the month of May will be in R.A. from 2.33.43 to 4.32.26, in north declination from 15.5.17 to 21.55.26, and in longitude from 40.51.12 to 69.45.50. A total eclipse of the sun, invisible, however, in New Zealand, occurs on the 19th. This eclipse will be visible in South Africa, the South Atlantic, and the South of South America. THE MOON. The phases of the moon will be as follows: —
THE PLANETS. Mercury will be in R.A. from 2.25.6 to 6.13.25, and in north declination from 13.53.3 to 25.19.42. It will be in superior conjunction with the sun on the 3rd, and will be in conjunction with the moon on the 20th. Venus will be in R.A. from 1.32.49 to 3.57 9, and in north declination from 8.8.14 to 19.47.35. It will be in conjuncwith the moon on the 18th. Mars will be in R.A. from 23.19.14 to 0.42.49, and in declination from 5.58.40 south to 2.55.0 north. It will be in conjunction with the moon on the 15th and with Uranus on the 24th. Jupiter will be in R.A. from 1.24.52 to 1.50.18, and in north declination from 7.45.15 to 10.9.38. . It will be in conjunction with the moon on the 17th. Saturn will be in R.A. from 17.9.29 to 17.1.14, and in- south declination from 21.15.14 to 21.4.18. It will be in conjunction with the moon, on the 7th. Uranus will be in conjunction with the moon on the 15th, and Neptune will be in conjunction with the moon on the 25tfi.
