FRUIT WASTE.

BETTER ORGANISATION URGED. SYDNEY, March 16. In th e city of Sydney, in one day, there was a waste of 21 tons of fruit. In one season the fruit waste in New South Wales runs into hundreds of tons. At present there is in Sydney a glut of peaches and pears, which, while temperatures are high, last sometimes until they reach the city, when a rot sets in, while very often the fruit is bad before it reaches Sydney. The proper organisation of every fruit district in Australia is being suggested by local experts to overcome the present huge waste, and, by proper methods, to save for consumption fruit that is now thrown to the pigs and make it cheaper to the public and more profitable to the man on the land. If Sydney is to eat more fruit, as it is urged to do, it will not only have to be cheaper than it is to-dav. but it looks as though the growers will have to make science their handmaiden if they ar e get credit notes instead of debit notejS when they send their products to the city.
