, HAMILTON, March 14. In the Supreme Court Mr Justice Blair ordered Walter Thomas Bunting to be detained for a period not exceeding 18 months for reformative purposes for cattle stealing. Bunting had bought cattle from Frank Rose, ostensibly for a client named M'Cray. who was non-existent, and sold the cattle on his own account. His Honor rejected the request of the defence to refer to the Appeal Court the question whether the charge should be false pretences.
