A Morrinsville resident recovered a sum of money in lucky circumstances last week. The money was placed in a dustbin at night time for safe keeping, but in the morning the owner found that the dustman had removed the rubbish. A hasty journey to the rubbish tip resulted in the owner finding his money while the rubbish was burning. Earthquake stories are in order at pre sent (says the Taranaki Herald). One tells of a country schoolmaster near New Plymouth who was .writing on the blackboard when a shock came. The board began to skid, and with the words: “ Earthquake children; this way out,” two strides took him outside, leaving the assistant mistress and children laughing inside.
