ADDINGTON MARKETS. CHRISTCHURCH, March 7. The entries at Addington market to-day in the store sheep section were slightly above average .autumn offerings, numbering about 27,000 head,. Outside, districts were well represented. Fat lambs and sheep Were in small supply, and sold W’ell, whilst a Substantial entry of fat cattle eased the tone of the market generally. There was a good entry of store sheep, and bidding was active for good lambs, bat the market was practically unchanged compared with last week. . ' SOUTHLAND MARKET REPORT. INVERCARGILL, March 9. GRAIN. Oats. —The market in so far as offers from outside are concerned has somewhat declined, buyers being only willing to pay 3s s£d, while there are also northern sellers at this price. Judging by the extent of the local crops merchants are of the opinion that the market must ultimately be more in their favour, consequently there are no Bluff sellers at this price. So far very little has been offered by growers and the prices being paid by merchants are distinctly in advance of the current f.0.b., s.i. values. -Undoubtedly the crops generally here in both ryegrass and oats are less than those of last season, a good check of this being the diminished quantity of binder twine that has gone out to the country, while wheat sown for this season is much in excess of the previous year. Chaff.—This market is in its usual slack condition, confined entirely to the small local consumption, shipping being altogether out of the question at the price paid to growers, £4 5s per ton, on trucks country sidings for prime quality, sacks supplied by buyers. Ryegrass.—Fairly considerable offerings have been made by growers during the last week or so, and at the outset the price paid by some buyers was somewhat generous. but during the last few days the price has been somewhat more reasonable. The majority of the seed has been saved in good order, and there is every prospect that the germination will be quite satisfactory. Notwithstanding this seed from the lighter • lands due to the dry. weather experienced has not matured, while, a fair quantity of light weight seed ranging between 191 b to 221 b, has to find buyers. Values* offered in the meantime for such

light weight seed are about 2s 8d per bushel up to 3s 6d for well milled 271 b seed. STOCK REPORT. The stock market is very active at the present, large yardings being general throughout the district. Fat cattle were forward in large numbers at Wallacetown sale on Tuesday, and vendors had to be satisfied with slightly reduced prices. There was also a large yarding of fat sheep, with a large proportion of fat ewes, and values in this particular section eased somewhat. Store shedp are now coming forward in large numbers, the yards in the various centres being taxed to their utmost capacity, and nothwithstanding, prices are well maintained. Fat Cattle. —Prime heavy bullocks, £l2 to £l4; medium-weight bullocks, £lO to £ll 10s; prime heavy heifers, £lO to £ll 10s; medium heifers, £7 10s to £9; prime heavy cows, £9 to £lO 10s; medium cows, £7 to £8 10s; vealers, to 32s 6d; runners, to £4 10s; prime ox beef, 30s to 32s 6d per 1001 b; heifer beef, to 32s fid; cow beef, 20s to 22s 6d. The grain market showed some activity in Oamaru last week, and a number of transactions in wheat, oats, and barley are reported. Many samples of wheat have been under offer, but the sales have not been extensive owing to the difference in ideas of value as between millers and growers. Early in the week Hunters college wheat sold at 6s per bushel on trucks, but towards the end of the week owners had to accept 5s lOd. The best price obtained for Tuscan and Dreadnought has been 5s 4d, and for Velvet 6s Sd. Most of the growers are declining to do business at the prices offering, but the millers are well supplied and show no disposition to increase their offers. The market for oats is by no means brisk. Sales of A Gartons have been made at 2s lOd per bushel on trucks, and of B Gartons at 2s 7d. Some of the merchants are effecting sales as between farmer and farmer. Oaten sheaf chaff has not been offering in quantity. The nominal value is £3 15s per ton, on trucks. Several transactions in barley are reported. Malting Chevalier has changed hands at from 3s fid to 3s 7d per bushel, on trucks, and Cape barley at 3s .per bushel, ex store. Potatoes are offering in limited quantities, and prices range from £4 15s to £5 per ton, on trucks. Good quality cocksfoot seed has sold at from 7d to Bd, ryegrass at 3s IJd, and western wolths at 2s 3d. The live stock market has shown some animation, and since the good fall of rain there has been quite a lively demand for store stock. Rape lambs have sold at 22s 9d, ewe lambs 25s Id, small hill -wether lambs 15s 3d, two-tooth ewes 365, and fat wethers 28s 6d. Fat lambs are selling at schedule prices, which have not changed for some weeks. Ox and heifer beef continues to sell at prices on a par with Burnside. Heavy fat cows have realised £8 ICs, and dairy cows have changed hands at from" £7 to £B. - Pigs have hardened a little, and good weaners are now worth from 15s to 20s.
