STANLEY LAWSON WOOD. LONDON, March 4. The death is announced of Stanley TJ, Wood, the artist. Stanley Lawson Wood was bom in 1878. He was head artist on the staff of C. A. Pearson, Ltd., for six years. He illustrated for the Graphic, Illustrated London News, Sketch, etc., and humorous books. He was known ehiefly for his humorous and military work.

LORD SINHA. DELHI, March 5. The death is announced of Lord Sinha from heart failur' Lord Sinha was the first native member of the Viceroy of India’s Executive Council, and was the first Indian subject to bo raised to the peerage. In 1922 he was appointed Governor of Bihar and Orissa, being the first Indian to hold the post of Provincial Governor, but ill-health compelled him to resign the post some 10 months later. The Secretary for India (the Earl of Birkenhead) has- sent the Governor of Bengal the following message of sympathy with the family of the late Lord Sinha: —“ The newspapers report the death of Lord Sinha. Please convey to his family an expression of my sincere sympathy. By his great ability, industry, and sound judgment Lord Sinha achieved for himself a position, both as a lawyer and an administrator, such as no Indian hal held before, and he used it for the benefit of his country. In the sphere of politics his singleness of purpose and high ideals, coupled with a sober appreciation of realities, assured him of a place in t-e foremost rank of Indian statesmen.” SIR HARRY POLAND, K.C. RUGBY. March 3. The death is announced of Sir Harry Poland, K.C., who was probably the oldest member of the legal profession. He was in his ninety-ninth year, and had been a barrister for 77 years. A message from Atlantic City (New Jersey) states that Mr Rodman Wanarnaker, a New York and Philadelphia merchant, and one of th e earliest supporters of aviation, died to-day.
