AVERAGE LATE SUMMER RAINFALL. An average late summer rainfall was recorded in Dunedin during last montlu Records compiled at the Musselburgh Pumping Station show that the total rainfall for February was 2.45 in. Ths fall was’ the third heaviest registered for February during the past five years. The lightest fall recorded for the second month during that period was 1.22 in in 1924. The fall for February last year was 3.43 in, so that the fall for. last month was less by nearly lin. The falls last month, with three exceptions, were light. Rain fell on only eight days, s<? that 21 daj's of the month were devoid ol moisture. No rain fell between February 1 and 6, and the falls throughout the 29-day period were widely spaced. The heaviest fall was on February 11, when the pumping station instrument* registered 1.52 in. This was the heaviest fall recorded in Dunedin for a 24-hour period during the past three or four months. The only other fall of any consequence was on February 15. Another warm day was rerecorded on Februaiy 5. when the maximum thermometer reading was 75deg Other warm days were experienced on February 9 (74deg.), February 1 (72deg.)> February 3 (71deg.), February 10 (70deg.), and February 13 (71deg). The atmosphere taame somewhat changeable during the last two weeks of the mouth, when the average daily maximum thermometer reading was 60deg. The lowest temperature was recorded on February 2b, when the mercury fell to 49deg. (maximum). The second lowest recorded temperature was on February 27, when the maximum reading was 51deg. The barometer varied to some extent during the month. The readings generally were high. The barometer showed littld movement during the first nine days, when the daily readings were between 30.04 and 30.20. The conditions were changeable on February 10 and 11, when the barometer fell to 29.83. There was a distinct changd again on February 12, when the reading was 30.14. There was another change on February 15, when high readings were recorded. On that date the barometer rose to 30.34 at 8 a.m., and to 30.38 at 5 p.m. These were the highest readings for the month, and were considerably, above the highest reading for January, which was 30.31. The barometer fell again on February 16, and remained about 30.03 for about six days. Changeable conditions between February 22 and February 27 resulted in the barometer fulling td 29.84. The lowest reading was on February 26. On that day the barometer was dowil. to 29.82.
