A WINTRY SNAP.

CHRISTCHURCH, February 27. The weather, which has been warm and dry with a few cool changes since the New Year, broke last evening, when the temperature dropped and heavy showers of rain fell at intervals, accompanied by a wintry sou’-wester. It rained intermittently again to-day, and there were occasional hail showers. Various parts of the province are affected similarly, and the mountain ranges have received the first coating of snow.

Our special correspondent in Wanganui states that there has been a good deal of influenza about owing to the changeable weather conditions. Scarlet fever is also prevalent.
